Melanie’s treatment approach is one of empathy, communication and curiosity. All bodies are welcome and deserving of care. She views each client as an individual, making their way toward ideal health. Pairing comfort with a corrective plan, her aim is to define root cause, provide effective treatment and offer meaningful education to achieve lasting results. Recovery is a process - Melanie never misses an opportunity to teach clients about the nature of healing and cheer them on with their self-care homework.
About Melanie
Melanie Wheaton is an honours graduate from ICT Northumberland College and she brings over 20 years of experience to her practice as a Registered Massage Therapist.
In 2023, dream became reality and she is now seeing clients at home in Purcell's Cove. Melanie is over the moon to share her peaceful and cozy little studio, just 10 kms from central Halifax. She welcomes clients from diverse backgrounds and interests, and is always keen to tackle challenging health issues. She is drawn to post-surgical work and treatment of postural dysfunction. Clients may notice she enjoys digging into the little details of day to day life to help unravel the patterns that keep us 'stuck'.
Lifelong learning is essential for Melanie and treatments will draw on techniques from several areas of study: Myofascial Release, Systemic Deep Tissue Therapy, and CranioSacral Therapy. A holistic mindset is also informed by a number of memorable courses: Coping With Grief, Mental Health First Aid, Iyengar Yoga for Self-Care, Reiki I, Chronic Pain Simplified, and The Myth of Normal (Dr. Gabor Maté).
Melanie feels lucky to call Halifax home for three decades and has used her training in the community by offering talks to runners, presenting on wellness in the workplace, and volunteering time (QEII Sunshine Room, MTANS, fund raising events).
In her free time Melanie practices her own wellness with gardening, family time, music and plenty of jaunts in the great outdoors, usually with her big red dog. Melanie is an incurable maker and sewing enthusiast. She can also be found puttering with home projects, preparing and sharing food, and planning the next day trip.
